Course Description

This course discusses ridge alterations post-extraction and provides a rationale for interceptive ridge preservation to minimize alveolar bone loss. During dental surgery, it is important to improve patient comfort and reduce post-operative pain and morbidity. Piezo surgery technology provides minimally traumatic tooth extraction and localized ridge augmentation techniques. Surgical closure during dental surgery is key to predictable healing and hemostasis. A practical approach using evidence-based dentistry is used to select correct suturing material. Step-by-step suturing techniques will be shown using lectures and surgical videos to optimize wound closure. Participants will learn techniques to preserve the original bone volume during tooth extractions, guided bone regeneration and suturing techniques for predictable outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand consequences of tooth loss and rationale for ridge preservation.
  • Select appropriate bone graft and membrane.
  • Learn how to perform different suturing methods.
  • Be familiar with suturing materials and their indications.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

  • Perform surgical incisions and flap reflection on pig jaws.
  • Perform atraumatic extraction and ridge preservation.
  • Learn different suturing techniques for teeth and implants.
  • Learn how to use correct instruments and suturing needles.
